Dentistry is one of the oldest medical professions, dating back to 7000 B.C. However, it wasn’t until 5000 B.C. that descriptions related to dentistry and tooth decay were available.
•Dr. Levi Parmly, who was from New Orleans, LA invented dental floss in 1840.
•The first electric toothbrush was developed in Switzerland in 1939 but not sold in the U.S. until the late 1950’s.
•Fluoride was added to toothpaste for the first time in 1956.
•The modern dental implant was developed in the 1960’s. Implants were once considered a radical alternative to dentures and bridges but are now regarded as the superior treatment for replacing missing teeth.
